I have been searching for info on John Woods (born abt 1836) He was the son of John Woods (born abt 1810) and Martha Pollard (born abt 1796) There seems to be confusion about John jnrs mother because John snr was married twice(2nd wife Mary Chambers) They mainly lived at Walsham Le Willows in Suffolk. John jnr had an older sister Mary. I have found on an unsourced tree that they say Mary was illegitimate but her biological parents were John snr & Mary.Martha died early 1837 and John snr married Mary in late 1837. It also appears that Mary Chambers had an illegitimate daughter Susan Chambers (born abt 1836) when she married John snr. I have all the info on John jnr from when he left England and came to Australia in 1858 but I would like to find his birth certificate. Can anyone pleeeease help me???

Hi Gunnadomee,

Civil registration in England didnt start until 1837 entries start from 3rd 1/4 (jul/aug/sept). There wouldnt be a birth certificate for John jnr if he was born before. It would be down to looking through parish registers, have you tried seeing if there are any online. Do you have a LDS centre nr you.
I have put the link below, there is a search box to see if there are centres near.

Hi

I wonder if John Woods was the father of Susan Chambers bc1836 and that he was seeing Mary before his first wife died in early 1837? That seems a likely explanation. Once Martha died, he may have then made an honest woman out of Mary when he could.
