How to Use the Dark Mode Feature on the Family History UK Forum​

What Are the Display Mode Options?​

The forum offers three display mode options that you can choose from to suit your preference:

1. System:
   
   • This option automatically matches the display mode of the forum to your device's system settings. If your device is set to dark mode, the forum will display in dark mode, and if your device is set to light mode, the forum will adjust accordingly. It’s a great choice if you want the forum to adapt based on your device's settings.
     
2. Light:
   
   • Select Light mode for a classic, bright theme that uses a light background with dark text. This mode is ideal for use during the day or in well-lit environments where a lighter background is more comfortable.
     
3. Dark:
   
   • Choosing Dark mode will switch the forum to a dark background with lighter text. This mode is perfect for browsing in low-light environments or at night, as it reduces eye strain and provides a more subdued viewing experience.

How to Change the Display Mode​

You have two simple ways to switch between these modes:

Option 1: Changing the Mode via Preferences

1. Log in to Your Forum Account:
   Make sure you are logged in to access the user settings.
   
   
2. Go to Preferences:
   • Click on your username in the top-right corner of the forum to open the user menu.
   • Select Preferences from the dropdown menu.
3. Select Your Display Mode:
   • Under the Style variation dropdown menu, you’ll see options for System, Light, and Dark.
   • Choose your preferred mode and click Save to apply the changes.

This method allows you to set a default mode that stays consistent whenever you log in.

Option 2: Quick Change in the Footer

For a quicker way to switch display modes, you can use the option directly from the forum's footer:

1. Scroll to the Bottom of Any Forum Page:
   At the very bottom of the page, you’ll find the style and language selector on the left side.
   
   
2. Look for the Display Mode Icon:
   • Next to the language chooser (which currently shows English (UK)), you’ll see an icon that represents the display mode.
   • Moon Icon: Click this to switch to Dark Mode.
   • Sun Icon: Click this to switch back to Light Mode.

This is a convenient way to switch modes on the fly without needing to navigate through your user preferences.
